WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Provide 1:1 virtual tutoring sessions for K–8 students (60 minutes)
  • Support homework, reading, writing, math, and general study skills

  • Encourage confidence and a positive learning experience
  • Communicate with parents as needed or as agreed upon
  • Deliver lessons in a calm, structured, kid-friendly manner

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome tutors from a variety of backgrounds — experienced teachers, paraeducators, college students, high school students, retirees, and individuals with strong subject knowledge. What matters most is the ability to work well with children and provide patient, encouraging academic support.

  • Experience working with children (tutoring, teaching, mentoring, coaching, childcare, etc.)
  • Confidence in at least one core subject area (reading, writing, math, ELA, etc.)
  • A patient, positive, kid-friendly communication style
  • Reliable internet, computer, webcam, and a quiet tutoring space
  • Comfort using Zoom or Google Meet

Note: Teaching certification is not required.

Tutor Eligibility Statement

WordUp welcomes tutors from diverse educational and professional backgrounds. Applicants do not need a teaching license to tutor with us. Accepted Tutor Backgrounds:

College students (especially education, psychology, or STEM majors)

High school students (ages 16–17 with work eligibility)

Paraeducators and instructional assistants

Experienced tutors

Former teachers

Community educators

Individuals with strong K–8 subject knowledge

Every tutor must:

  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Be legally eligible to work in their state
  • Pass a background check through our secure partner (Check)
  • Demonstrate clear communication and a safe, professional approach to working with children
